Expansion of 4G LTE in Ethiopia by way of mobile broadband network throughout 52 more towns by Ethio Telecom has been undertaken thereby taking high-speed connectivity to communities based out of Gambella, Benishangul-Gumuz, Harari, Oromia, Amhara, Southern Ethiopia, Somali, Tigray, and Afar regions.

The latest expansion of 4G LTE in Ethiopia is part of the ongoing program from Ethio telecom for network modernization as well as broadband expansion, with the goal to expand LTE coverage far beyond major urban centers as well as regional capitals.

Operator details show that Oromia, along with Amhara, forms the biggest portion of the new towns connected, making up about two-thirds of the most recent rollout. Smaller expansions have been reported in the Gambella, Benishangul-Gumuz, and Somali as well as Afar regions.

The regional distribution illustrates a continuous effort to expand broadband availability to high-population areas, in addition to historically underserved populations, in support of broader digital connectivity goals along with broad access to standard mobile broadband services.

The expansion comes as Ethio telecom operations are speeding up network modernization. Over the course of time, the operator has carried out several LTE expansion initiatives and upgrades to its infrastructure in an effort to broaden broadband coverage and enhance service quality across the country.

The rising demand for mobile financial services, online education, digital commerce, and government digital platforms continues to push the want for faster and, of course, more dependable connectivity beyond the major urban centers of Ethiopia. The extended LTE coverage is anticipated to enable these services and promote digital inclusion throughout newly connected communities.

This latest rollout is a further move in the ongoing efforts made by Ethio telecom to expand access to high-speed mobile internet services in the wide range of geographical areas throughout Ethiopia.
The post Expansion of 4G LTE in Ethiopia by Ethio Telecom in 52 Towns first appeared on Tele Info Today.

Nokia, on May 12, 2026, announced new agentic AI capabilities for its fixed network product lines in order to help boost productivity and operational expertise throughout home as well as broadband networks. Based on 600+ million deployed broadband lines, the agentic AI capabilities of Nokia assist telecom providers solve fibre and Wi-Fi challenges right from design and planning to deployment and standard operations. The AI-enabled fixed networks portfolio of Nokia is built for the intelligent broadband era, enhancing the end-user experience, boosting operational effectiveness, and speeding up fibre rollout.

The telecom industry is all set to spend $6.2 billion on agentic AI by 2030. Agentic AI systems that can rationalise and decide independently will be a major enabler of the cognitive broadband era, changing networks from basic connectivity to autonomous optimisation and AI-powered infrastructures.

According to the president of fixed networks with Nokia, Sandy Motley, AI makes your end-users less likely to churn, your engineering and helpdesk teams more productive, and your field teams connect more homes more quickly. Nokia’s Agentic AI puts 600+ million lines’ worth of broadband experience at the fingertips of every field technician, helpdesk agent, and network engineer and solves problems before the customer is even aware. We are fundamentally changing how home and broadband networks are deployed and run.

As part of new agentic AI in homes and broadband networks, Nokia employs AI agents as well as natural language interactions in its Altiplano and Corteca as well as Broadband Easy platforms in order to help telecom providers modernise their processes and cut costs. Operators can actively fix problems, optimise operations with no added headcount and identify network-related issues by means of automated root-cause assessment. The AI agents will provide immediate, tangible advantages for operators, such as raising initial contact helpdesk resolution rates over 50%, qualifying network occurrences in less than 5 minutes, and reducing return trips to construction sites and connected homes by 50%.

The new agentic AI in homes and broadband networks is based on open and safe conduct that combines AI agents, live data and external services, with guarantees surrounding regulation, the privacy of data and vendor liberty. Operators have complete control and may utilise an LLM suitable for their particular use case, deploy their own interfaces, or connect sources of data when they deploy AI across their business.

Says Grant Lenahan, Partner and Principal Analyst with Appledore Research, “AI only works with quality data and when data is AI-ready. Our recent market outlook on AI in network automation underscored that the industry is rapidly moving to build infrastructure capable of enabling powerful, successful AI. Vendors like Nokia that combine deep domain expertise with real-world scale are best positioned to deliver reliable outcomes. Nokia’s approach reflects many of the right architectural principles, including autonomous control loops, structured data models, and open APIs, which are critical to making automation easy and AI responses accurate.”

Nokia’s new AI capabilities go ahead and cover the entire broadband network lifecycle. They improve end-user experience and enhance productivity for customer care, network engineering & operations as well as field force teams –

A chat-based AI assistant offers technicians and assistance teams immediate access to product knowledge, speeding up training and routine troubleshooting.

AI-powered text, voice, and image guidance assist field technicians throughout surveys and installations, and computer vision technology assists in verifying the standard of work done and creating a live digital twin of the FTTH network.

Automated diagnostics to detect the degradation and avoid the outages, providing the frontline support teams higher levels of operational precision and depth of analysis.

An intelligent troubleshooting agent enhances the root cause analysis and accelerates remediation efforts throughout home and access networks, employing sophisticated reasoning in order to identify errors faster, lower ticket volumes and boost first call resolution rates.

Telgea, a provider of unified international mobile connectivity for multinational corporations, today announced it has received a total of $5 million in strategic financing. Of the total, $3 million was secured from Telenor Group, the largest telecommunications operator in the Nordics. The remaining $2 million in financing came from Node, Antler VC, and Runway. The financing will be used to expand Telgea’s network footprint, allowing the company to add 16 more countries by the end of 2026, making them the operator covering most countries with local phone plans in the world.

The main challenge facing these companies is the highly fragmented nature of global telecommunications each country requires a separate local provider, introducing operational complexity and a constant need for local telecom expertise. A second critical pain point is purchasing power: because mobile spend is split across multiple local providers and contracts, international companies are unable to leverage their full global volume to negotiate better pricing and terms.

Telgea consolidates employee connectivity into a single global solution utilizing eSIM technology and extensive AI driven automation. The solution provides businesses with full visibility, centralized management, and a single global contract. By developing what is essentially a ready-made, seamlessly integrated network across markets, the company sees strong demand from local telecom operators seeking a true international footprint for their enterprise customers.

Expansion to 26 countries by end of 2026

Telgea currently serves more than 60 enterprise customers and has tier-1 network partnerships in 10 countries. The company’s combined voice and data footprint now reaches more than 650 million people across its active markets.

Telenor Group is one of the largest operators in the Nordics, with more than 160 million subscribers globally. Its venture arm, Telenor Amp, has made a strategic investment in Telgea, reflecting confidence in the company’s technology and growth potential.

Telgea plans to expand its operator friendly platform to 26 countries by year end 2026, and to 50 countries by 2027. Within two years,Telgea will cover every major business hub and reach 3 billion people worldwide.

“Multinational enterprises are an underserved segment that operators have struggled to serve efficiently across borders. Telgea changes that by providing a unified platform that reduces operational complexity for operators while delivering a seamless experience for enterprise customers. We see this as a significant opportunity to unlock a market with substantial untapped potential and we’re excited to support the company through our investment,” said Dan Ouchterlony, Head of Telenor Amp.

“Telenor’s strategic investment is a strong signal to global enterprises that Telgea has the operator credibility and financial backing to deliver on its promise of unified international connectivity. When one of the world’s largest telecom operators chooses to bet on our platform, it speaks directly to the confidence enterprises need when consolidating their global mobile infrastructure under a single provider. Our goal is straightforward: make mobile connectivity as simple and borderless as the cloud and with this partnership, enterprises have every reason to make that move with confidence,” said Andreas Åfeldt Franke, founder and CEO of Telgea.
The post Telenor Group leads $5 Million Strategic Financing Round for Global Telecoms Infrastructure Provider Telgea first appeared on Tele Info Today.

BT reveals sovereign platform that is designed to give the UK businesses as well as public bodies much greater control across their networks and data, as well as emerging services like cloud-hosted applications along with AI.

As BT reveals sovereign platform which was formally announced on December 01, 2025, consolidates a suite of services that, as per BT, is going to be delivered from the UK-based infrastructure and also supported only by staff that is located in the UK.

The company goes on to frame this move as a response to the rising geopolitical uncertainty as well as a growing demand that is coming from organizations for better and more robust assurances pertaining to where their systems, operations as well as data get controlled.

The chief executive of BT Business, Jon James, went on to describe the initiative as very central to the adoption of novel technologies.

He added that sovereignty is not just simply a matter of compliance or, for that matter, risk management; it is key to unleashing the AI potential and making sure of resilient operations in a growingly uncertain world. James further said that their pioneering launch goes on to reflect the unique position of BT as being the digital backbone of the UK and also the only provider with the scale, capability, and experience that are required to enable true UK sovereign solutions.

According to BT, the platform is going to underpin the phased rollout when it comes to new sovereign-branded voice and cloud as well as AI services in the coming months, and a sovereign alternative for a range of present core products is going to be available through BT Business within the first half of 2026. The company stressed its current experience rolling out secure services to the critical public as well as private sector organizations and also went ahead and positioned the platform as a way for the customers to opt for levels of “sovereignty” that are appropriate as per their needs.

This announcement comes as the UK government works hard on an AI strategy that is focused on the fast growth of the domestic data center industry in the country. BT is a founding member of the UK Sovereign AI Industry Forum, thereby enabling the alignment of the UK telecoms industry along with the national objectives.

Industry observers opine that the sovereign offerings are especially growingly common as firms, along with governments, look to reduce the exposure to foreign jurisdictional risk, safeguard the sensitive information, and also meet the tightening regulatory anticipations. Critics, on the other hand, warn that the claims of sovereignty can indeed mask the practical trade-offs, like higher costs and decreased choice of suppliers, along with certain potential delays when it comes to accessing the upgraded global technologies, and that true technological independence is quite challenging to attain in an interconnected worldwide market.

Notably, BT has not published any detailed technical specifications or even pricing in relation to the new platform. Customers, along with the procurement teams, are going to be watching for clarifications pertaining to data residency guarantees, third-party software components, and auditability as well as whether the services will be certified as per the government security standards like Cyber Essentials or the upcoming standards for sovereign AI by the UK.
The post BT Reveals Sovereign Platform to Offer Greater Control first appeared on Tele Info Today.

The UK government has called on major operators to strengthen their approach to telecom consumer protection, urging companies to ensure customers are treated fairly and shielded from price changes they did not agree to. Chancellor Rachel Reeves and Technology Secretary Liz Kendall have written to BT/EE, Virgin Media O2, VodafoneThree, Sky, and TalkTalk, asking them to confirm that any customer currently under contract will not face increases beyond the terms they originally signed. The ministers also asked operators to accelerate efforts to move legacy customers to clearer pounds-and-pence pricing, with no change to the timing of planned adjustments.

Reeves and Kendall said these steps form part of a broader push to make billing practices more transparent, especially for households and businesses that rely on mobile and broadband services daily. Their letter follows previous correspondence from Kendall to Ofcom earlier in the month, raising concerns about how pricing structures are communicated to consumers. The officials emphasized that telecom consumer protection must remain central to operators’ commitments as the industry manages widespread changes in tariffs and service offerings.

The government will convene a roundtable with senior industry leaders to discuss additional actions that could support telecoms customers. The session will also explore areas where the government can help the sector accelerate investment in the UK’s digital infrastructure. Officials believe this cooperation is essential to balancing consumer safeguards with the industry’s long-term development needs. The discussion is expected to build on continuing scrutiny of billing communication, contract clarity, and the treatment of long-standing customers.

Kendall said, “Mobile and broadband bills are an essential, everyday cost for millions of us across the country. But it is clear to me that companies need to do more to protect their consumers – loyal customers who rely on these services to run businesses and stay in touch with loved ones. When we meet them shortly, I expect company bosses to put forward clear plans to shield Brits from unexpected price rises and improve their customer communications. But we know this must be a collaborative effort. Working together, we want to support industry to invest in the infrastructure we all rely on and ensure even more people across the country can enjoy improved connectivity and access to digital services.” Her remarks underline the government’s expectation that telecom consumer protection should remain at the forefront of operator policy in the months ahead.
The post UK Urges Operators to Strengthen Telecom Consumer Protection first appeared on Tele Info Today.

July 2, 2025 — T-Mobile announced the completion of a $2 billion multi-year network expansion across Florida. The upgrades deliver faster 5G speeds and wider coverage, reaffirming T-Mobile’s leadership in 5G innovation and its commitment to fueling economic opportunity in the Sunshine State.

With this move, T-Mobile is making high-speed internet across Florida more accessible than ever before. The massive investment enhances America’s Best Network even more with more capacity, coverage and better performance, benefiting residents and businesses in both rural and urban communities. The expansion provides faster than ever data speeds, improved reliability and broader coverage for 22 million Floridians, while also supporting emergency response systems and smart city initiatives.

The multi-year investment expanded 5G coverage through new and upgraded existing cell sites — meaning faster internet speeds for businesses, schools, healthcare providers, first responders and all T-Mobile customers.

“T-Mobile has redefined connectivity in Florida. The investment we’ve made is bringing real benefits to the people and businesses that call this state home, not just with the fastest speeds, but with increased resiliency and reliability in moments that matter most,” said Ulf Ewaldsson, President of Technology, T-Mobile. “And we’re not done yet. With the country’s only 5G Advanced network and as the nation’s first provider with a direct-to-cell satellite network, we’re on track to deliver an even better network experience to Floridians — years before anyone else.”

Investment Highlights:

Network Sites: 1,282 new or retained sites from the merger with Sprint.

Site Upgrades: Nearly 1,350 sites upgraded across the state, boosting speed, capacity and reliability.

Resilience: Hardened 1,375 sites to improve emergency response and disaster recovery for people to stay connected when it matters most.

Speeds: Average statewide 5G download speeds of 266.7 MB per second, a 216% increase since 2021.

Coverage: Nearly 100% of Floridians are now covered by T-Mobile’s 5G network.

Connectivity When and Where It Matters Most

Florida’s vulnerability to hurricanes and severe weather demands advanced preparation. As part of its investment, T-Mobile has hardened sites across the state over the past four years, reinforcing them to withstand high winds, floods and power disruptions.

To prepare for major weather events, T-Mobile increased its heavy-duty disaster response satellite vehicles by more than 25% within the last year alone.

T-Mobile’s disaster readiness initiatives include:

Permanent backup power (generators and batteries) at critical sites.

Pre-positioned mobile response units and satellite trailers before storms.

24/7 network monitoring and rapid deployment teams.

Coordination with state and local emergency management agencies to prioritize public safety communications.

Going even further, T-Satellite with Starlink helps keep customers in Florida and across the country connected in places no terrestrial network can reach by using satellites in space. T-Satellite officially launches July 23, even for Verizon and AT&T customers.

Plus, with access to the nation’s latest 5G technology — 5G Standalone (SA) — public safety innovation is even more supported. 5G SA brings benefits like network slicing and increased security, and powers T-Mobile’s revolutionary network solution for first responders: T-Priority, a cutting-edge 5G solution designed to transform frontline connectivity. T-Mobile was the first provider in the world to roll out a 5G SA network in 2020 and now runs the largest deployment of its kind in the U.S.

“T-Mobile plays an essential role in keeping Floridians connected — not just in daily life, but when it matters most,” said David Bezzant, Vice President, T-Mobile Business Group. “Through this investment, we’re strengthening communications during natural disasters and closing coverage gaps in remote areas, so people can stay connected in critical moments and in places no other signal reaches.”

A Boon for Florida Businesses

T-Mobile’s investment in Florida goes way beyond the devices in people’s pockets. Businesses, big and small, are also benefiting from the upgrades.

Jacksonville-based Miller Electric will use a 5G private network from T-Mobile’s 5G Advanced Network Solutions (ANS) to support operations of fully autonomous bus-shaped shuttles that will transport visitors along a three-mile stretch from the home of the city’s professional football team, EverBank Stadium, to the new waterfront hub.

When Miller Electric and T-Mobile announced the partnership late last year, Craig Bowman, Director of Technology for Miller Electric, said, “5G connectivity provides high bandwidth and low latency communication between the AVs and the control center. This turnkey solution will enable the vehicles to navigate the streets alongside other vehicle traffic and will help ensure the bandwidth we need is available to stream real-time video surveillance and two-way audio and video communications between passengers and employees.”

“This $2 billion investment is more than an infrastructure upgrade — it’s a launchpad for innovation across Florida,” said Callie Field, President, T-Mobile Business Group. “With our leading 5G network, we’re enabling everything from autonomous transit to advanced technologies like T-Priority that elevate public safety in ways no other network can — all while giving Florida’s businesses and communities the reliable, resilient connectivity they need to grow, adapt and lead.”

Local Roots, Global Reach: Connecting Florida, Puerto Rico, the Caribbean and Latin America

T-Mobile’s leadership extends beyond the mainland. In Puerto Rico, T-Mobile operates the fastest and most reliable 5G network, delivering critical connectivity to millions of residents and businesses. The company’s ongoing investment in Puerto Rico’s digital infrastructure mirrors its commitment to Florida: resilient networks, innovative technology, and strong community partnerships. In fact, Opensignal’s latest Global Mobile Network Experience report, which measures the average download and upload speed experience from hundreds of operators around the world, found T-Mobile has the best 5G availability in Puerto Rico, placing the company as a global leader for download speeds in countries and territories smaller than 200,000 km2.

Recognizing the strong ties between Florida, the Caribbean and Latin America, T-Mobile also offers comprehensive international calling and roaming plans that provide affordable and reliable ways to reach family, friends and business contacts throughout Latin America and the Caribbean. With T-Mobile’s newest plans, families can make international calls to over 70 countries, including Colombia and Venezuela, for just $20 per month.

Expanding Access: T-Mobile Fiber and Home Internet

As Florida grows, so does its need for reliable internet. T-Mobile is helping meet this rising demand with two home broadband options designed to deliver value and choice to residents.

T-Mobile 5G Home Internet is an affordable and convenient Wi-Fi solution available to over 6 million households across Florida — that’s more than 50% of homes statewide. Leveraging T-Mobile’s leading 5G network, the internet service offers fast speeds with a simple 15-minute self-installation.

T-Mobile Fiber delivers future-proofed, reliable internet with plans offering ultra-fast speeds up to 2 Gbps for households with heavier internet demands. It’s currently available in Florida communities like St. Petersburg, Pensacola, and St. Cloud, as well as parts of Citrus, Pinellas, and Polk Counties—and beyond—with more locations coming soon.

Both options have plans packed with benefits to give customers a whole lot of value, like unlimited data, no monthly equipment fees and a 5-year price guarantee from the time they sign up.

The major cable companies in America are facing pressure from all sides. There is an increase in competition from cellphone carriers. The government has put a halt to its subsidies. Cable TV’s former stronghold has essentially fallen apart.

These factors drove Charter Communications’ $21.9 billion acquisition of Cox Communications on Friday. It is a partnership between two powerful companies with a long family history who are attempting to protect their cable broadband industry from growing pressure from cellphone providers encroaching on their domain.

A decade ago, broadband providers sought large acquisitions to safeguard their failing television operations. The biggest concern at the moment is that the internet, which served as these multibillion-dollar companies’ final moat, is being attacked.

Once a dependable source of explosive growth that brought in millions of new customers annually, cable internet service is now a chore for the two heavyweights of the sector, Comcast and Charter. Their primary source of income from the internet economy, which includes gaming and streaming, is still selling broadband connections, but this growth engine is faltering.

The threat has increased as a result of domestic broadband service being beamed over the air by telecom companies like Verizon and T-Mobile. With their offers, which leverage 5G technology to deliver internet speeds competing with fixed cable lines at lower pricing, wireless carriers have amassed millions of consumers.

The strains of this new environment have become more apparent in recent months: rival Comcast reported an increase in broadband customer losses, while Charter lost 60,000 internet users in the March quarter.

“We have AT&T, Verizon, and T-Mobile in 100% of our footprint. We have satellite everywhere we operate,” Charter chief Chris Winfrey said. “It’s significant.”

The agreement with Cox provides the merged company more leverage when it comes to negotiating with programmers, investing in networks, and vying for clients. Additionally, it broadens the enterprise offerings of the combined business.

Cox’s 6.3 million consumers and Charter’s 31.4 million customers are combined. On Friday, Charter’s stock increased by almost 2%.

With customers in major expanding markets like Phoenix, Las Vegas, and portions of Southern California, Cox—the longest running cable company in the United States—would strengthen Charter’s position. Within three years of the deal completing, the firms anticipate cost savings of $500 million annually.

“You really do need scale in this business,” said Andrew Cole, executive chairman of Glow Services, a telecom-focused software company, and board member of European cable company Liberty Global. Liberty Global, like Charter, is part of cable mogul John Malone’s communications empire.

“The coming-together of cable in its entirety over time will happen because that’s the only way they can compete against these giants, which are the telcos,” Cole said.

About 23% of the merged business will be held by the family-run Cox Enterprises, which will also assume Cox’s about $12 billion in outstanding debt. Charter announced on Friday that Cox will essentially replace Liberty as the source of long-term finance.

The combined business, which will have its headquarters in Stamford, Conn., intends to rebrand as Cox Communications within a year after the Charter-Cox closes. The brand that will interact with consumers will be Spectrum.

Malone, who transformed Charter from a minor cable operator into one of the biggest in the country about ten years ago by acquiring Time Warner Cable, is making another significant wager. The future of television was then his biggest concern. The biggest challenge is the future of broadband to safeguard the cable broadband industry.

Over the past few years, Malone, who is approaching his 80s, has been trying to solidify his legacy by streamlining his extensive telecom and media holdings. In an effort to streamline its ownership structure, Charter decided to purchase Malone’s Liberty Broadband, its largest shareholder, last year. On Friday, Charter executives said that the move will conclude concurrently with the Cox deal.

Malone is prepared to hand the reins over to a new partner, at least in the cable industry, as seen by Charter’s choice to take on the Cox name.

Despite being a significant player in the pay-TV and internet markets, Cox is still outsized by Comcast and Charter. While rival cable and telecom businesses grew through ever-larger acquisitions, the family-run business in Atlanta has chosen to remain private for the past two decades.

The Trump administration postponed its predecessor’s $42.5 billion government broadband-construction initiative, which further increased the short-term uncertainty for the cable broadband industry and internet service providers like Charter at large. While it examines the program’s requirements, the Commerce Department has suspended funds to state authorities that were scheduled to begin awarding contracts this year.

Additionally, streaming is still affecting cable companies’ video divisions.

Instead of watching MTV these days, customers stream Netflix. By expanding into live sports, which were once a staple of pay-TV packages, streamers—some of which are owned by tech giants like Amazon and Apple—have further weakened cable’s hold on video consumers.
The post Cable Broadband Industry Consolidation: Charter Buys Cox first appeared on Tele Info Today.
