Nokia shifts into high gear with evolution of TD-LTE Advanced #MWCS15

191

TD (TDD) technology started in first gear 17 years ago and Nokia Networks was the first vendor to get on board. Today, TD-LTE is thriving in six continents with hundreds of thousands of our Flexi Multiradio 10 Base Stations.

Now we’re working closely with GTI (Global TD-LTE Initiative) to continue the evolution of TDD and help rev it up beyond 4G. On July 15 at Mobile World Congress Shanghai 2015, Nokia Networks will participate in the panel discussion of “TDD Evolution Beyond LTE-A: TDD+” during the GTI Summit, with industry leaders like China Mobile and Softbank.

What will the evolution of TD-LTE address that hasn’t already been addressed today? Today we’re surrounded by an unprecedented amount of gadgets – from our handheld and wrist devices to the front and back panels of TVs, cars, refrigerators, and more. But this is just the beginning. As we age, my future car will know me well and drive me to my school reunion on the right day at the right time. I’ll also delight in streaming movies at 8K+ resolution when my kids have friends pop over unexpectedly.

These and many other advances will be featured during the panel discussion and workshops at GTI Summit this week which will actually deliver the 8K+ video streaming experience and much more.

Nokia Networks’ topic experts are also presenting next steps in the evolution of TD-LTE, such as how to find more capacity by converging TDD and FDD and increasing throughput with TDD-FDD carrier aggregation. Likewise, deployment of TD-LTE-Advanced networks in 3.5 GHz spectrum is becoming an increasingly important step given the 400 MHz of unused TD-LTE spectrum. (In case you missed our MWC 2015 launch of the industry’s first 3.5 GHz TD-LTE-Advanced 8-pipe radio, you can watch it here.)

And here’s a heads up on Nokia Network’s featured speakers and topics for the GTI workshops during the week:

  • “From 4G to 5G” by Dr. Ulrich Dropmann, Head of Industry Environment Technology and Innovations
  • “Nokia Carrier Aggregation solution” by Huang Xuegang, Head of TD-LTE Business Product Management
  • “Spectrum for Future” by Noel Kirkaldy, Business Development Middle East Africa
  • “3.5 GHz Market” by Ashish K. Dayama
