Idea, one of the leading telecom brands in India, continues to buzz in the global arena! It has now bagged the prestigious World Communication Awards 2012 (WCA) under the ‘Best Brand Campaign’ category at the recently held awards ceremony in London.
Recognised for its popular ‘3G Population Campaign’ this year, Idea continued its winning spree at the WCA awards, second year in a row, making it the only Indian telecom brand to achieve this feat. Idea won at the Annual Awards ceremony of WCA which witnesses participation from the world’s biggest and the best communications providers, honoring communications initiatives that have proven their strong effectiveness with consumers.
The World Communication Awards (WCA) recognize companies and individuals responsible for innovations, achievements and great new services that help in building tomorrow’s industry. The Awards are open to all communications providers, whether they are a traditional carrier, service provider, multimedia content provider or another organization providing a communication service. This year, over 78 organizations and individuals from across the world were shortlisted as finalists for the WCA awards in 18 different categories.
Speaking about Idea’s nomination Mr. Rob Chambers, Managing Director, Total Telecom said, “For the second year running, Idea Cellular submitted an outstanding submission for Best Brand Campaign. We were impressed by how it addressed real life issues and utilised humour to get it’s message across. We hope Idea Cellular will continue to be active participants in future Total Telecom organised awards.”
Speaking on the win, Mr. Sashi Shankar, Chief Marketing Officer, Idea Cellular, said, “Idea has emerged as one of the most loved brands in India. It continues to create new benchmarks in consumer communication, further strengthening brand connect with the Indian audience. It is heartening to see our efforts being recognized at prestigious global platform such as World Communication Awards, year after year.”
Talking about the winning campaign, Mr. Shankar said, “3G was a new category in the Indian telephony space. Idea’s 3G Population Campaign was highly effective in establishing Idea’s wide range of mobile broadband services, while also growing the category for mass adoption of 3G services in India.”

The campaign duly reiterated Idea’s core philosophy of ‘championing’ ideas that have the potential to change lives, through the power of mobile telephony.
Last year, Idea won the ‘Best Brand Campaign’ of the year award for two of its most popular and successful communication campaigns – ‘Break the Language Barrier’ and ‘No Idea, Get Idea’ at World Communication Awards 2011.
