ZTE Corporation, a publicly-listed global provider of telecommunications equipment, network solutions and mobile devices, has unveiled a new series of backhaul solutions for LTE small cell technology, a powerful offering for network operators to meet rising subscriber demand for mobile broadband.

As the increasing use of smart terminals enriches the lives of consumers, network operators face rising challenges. To ensure high-quality user experience, operators need to construct networks that offer dense and miniaturised coverage – small cell technology will therefore play a more important role. The deployment of small cell networks also places more stringent demands on backhaul technology, with increased emphasis on high capacity, low cost, security and speed of network construction.

ZTE’s new series of backhaul solutions for LTE small cells will help operators address these technical challenges, offering support for a wide range of data transmission methods, including packet bearer network backhaul solution, fixed broadband backhaul solution (through PON, xDSL and Cable), microwave wireless backhaul solution, WiFi non-line-of-sight (NLOS) wireless backhaul solution and TD-LTE backhaul solution. Operators will enjoy more flexibility and choice in customising their backhaul networks based on their own requirements.

Another advantage of the new series is its multi-module support. ZTE’s LTE small cell backhaul solutions can be fitted with transmission modules for DSL, PON, Cable, Wifi and TD-LTE. This can help operators reduce the cost of site rental, and enable easier engineering implementation, cutting the total cost of ownership. The support for wireless transmission modules such as Wifi and TD-LTE also addresses the non-line-of-sight (NLOS) challenges of network construction in urban areas.
