Taiwanese smartphone maker seeks to revive ailing fortunes with renewed focus on long-time partner Microsoft.

HTC has become the latest smartphone maker to pin its hopes for a merry Christmas on Windows Phone 8, unveiling two devices that have more in common with Finnish rival Nokia than just the operating system.

The Taiwanese company has incorporated the Windows Phone name in both of its new handsets, calling them the “Windows Phone 8X and 8S by HTC”.

“Pairing HTC’s beautiful new Windows Phone 8X and 8S with our brand is a big milestone for both companies,” said Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer, in a statement. “I’m thrilled to take our longstanding partnership to the next level.”
