Telefónica helps to make the internet a better place for kids

Telefónica today joined forces with 25 other leading European ICT companies and Neelie Kroes, EU Commissioner for The Digital Agenda, to form a coalition to make the internet a safer place for children.

José María Álvarez-Pallete, CEO of Telefónica Europe, said: “I want to help to ensure that young people are able to realise the enormous potential that the internet gives them to enrich and improve their lives.  Commissioner Kroes has brought industry leaders together in Europe around this critical cause, and I believe that by working together, we can make a real difference.”
During 2012 Telefónica will renew its efforts to ensure that parents have access to the expert advice they need to make the internet a better place for their children.Telefónica will deepen collaboration with Europe’s national Safer Internet Centres in order to provide information and advice that will help children safely enjoy the benefits of the internet.

Telefónica will also simplify the parental control tools it offers across fixed and mobile platforms, and will continue to lead the industry in collaborating with the EU and national governments to disrupt the use of the internet for the distribution of images of child sexual abuse.
