Finnish handset maker Nokia has announced that the company has now sold 1.5 billion Series 40 based handsets, with that figure being hit in Brazil.
Nokia has reached this milestone with one of their Asha 303 devices, which has been purchased by a 21-year-old woman in the Brazilian city of São Paulo. The Nokia Asha 303 was announced at Nokia World 2011, at the end of October last year. This event also brought with it the first Windows Phone 7 flagship handses from the Finland based outfit, in the Lumia 800 and lower costing Lumia 710. The latter of which goes on sale in the UK, very soon.
The Series 40 device was purchased from a Magazine Luiza store in São Paulo by Mayara Rodrigues, who loves staying in touch with friends and family through social networks. The Asha 303 arrives with a touch screen and also a Qwerty keypad, where the phone is designed for web browsing, social networking and gaming, along with featuring pre-installed entertainment and applications, such as Angry Birds Lite. Nokia’s first Series 40 phone was the 7110, developed in 1999. Since then this range of phones has evolved greatly and is now considered to be a ‘smartphone lite’ platform, according to Nokia.
