LG Uplus has partnered with Ericsson to jointly develop network-based voice AI solutions and accelerate the evolution of AI-native networks. The strategic collaboration combines LG Uplus’ commercial AI capabilities with Ericsson’s telecommunications network expertise to develop next-generation voice AI services, validate the technology across global cloud environments and expand commercial deployment in international markets.

Partnership Targets Commercial Network-Based Voice AI

As part of the collaboration, LG Uplus and Ericsson will jointly develop network-based voice AI technologies, integrate AI systems into telecom networks, design AI-native network architectures and conduct technical validation across multiple cloud platforms. The companies also plan to expand the global commercialisation of voice AI solutions, moving beyond technology development towards real-world telecom deployments.

The partnership brings together LG Uplus’ operational experience from its AI calling service, ixi-O, with Ericsson’s global network technology capabilities. Both companies expect to complete technical verification by the end of the year before introducing commercial services powered by AI-native network infrastructure.

Network-Based Voice AI Expands Intelligent Telecom Services

Unlike conventional AI assistants that rely primarily on applications or operating systems, network-based voice AI processes intelligence within the telecommunications network itself. This enables operators to deliver AI-powered services such as intelligent call handling, spam call management, real-time scheduling assistance and information retrieval while maintaining a seamless experience across connected devices.

The companies also envision supporting emerging AI-powered devices, including AI glasses and humanoid robots, through a unified communications network where multiple intelligent devices interact using shared network intelligence rather than isolated on-device AI.

Collaboration Strengthens AI-Native Network Evolution

Beyond customer-facing services, the partnership extends to network operations. LG Uplus and Ericsson will apply artificial intelligence to analyse network performance, optimise energy efficiency, automate fault management and improve service quality, supporting the broader transition towards AI-native telecom networks.

As telecom operators increasingly integrate AI into core network functions, partnerships between carriers and network technology providers are becoming essential for commercialising intelligent communications services while improving operational efficiency and creating new revenue opportunities.

The partnership between LG Uplus and Ericsson positions network-based voice AI as a key step towards AI-native telecommunications. By combining commercial AI experience with advanced network technologies, the companies aim to accelerate the deployment of intelligent voice services, strengthen network automation and expand AI-powered telecom capabilities across global markets.
