Eutelsat has announced its participation in the Enhanced Satellite Connectivity Project for Greenland, a new initiative designed to bring Greenland LEO connectivity to remote communities and critical infrastructure across the country. The project is supported by the European Union, the Government of Greenland and the Government of Denmark, and was officially launched on 7 September 2026 at Eutelsat’s ground station in Greenland.
The launch event was attended by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, Greenland’s Prime Minister Jens-Frederik Nielsen and Denmark’s Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen. Under the project, Eutelsat will provide OneWeb Low Earth Orbit connectivity in partnership with Tusass, Greenland’s national telecommunications provider, which serves as the project’s lead partner.
Greenland’s vast and rugged geography, combined with harsh climate conditions, makes the deployment of terrestrial networks extremely challenging across large parts of the country. The Enhanced Satellite Connectivity Project aims to address this gap by extending reliable communications to settlements and critical infrastructure in areas that have historically remained difficult to connect. Eutelsat and Tusass already share a longstanding working relationship, and this project represents a significant new phase in their cooperation.
Eutelsat’s OneWeb constellation operates in polar orbit, making it well suited for high-latitude regions such as Greenland and the wider Arctic. The constellation is capable of delivering high-speed, low-latency Greenland LEO connectivity at these latitudes, which positions it as a practical solution for bridging the digital divide in remote northern communities.
European Collaboration and Broader Satellite Capabilities
The Enhanced Satellite Connectivity Project brings together broader European satellite capabilities beyond Eutelsat OneWeb alone. Hispasat is also involved in the wider initiative, which builds on cooperation within SpaceRISE, the consortium responsible for delivering the European Union’s IRIS² secure connectivity programme. Eutelsat is a core partner in SpaceRISE and will contribute its LEO capabilities to IRIS².
The European Union’s support for the project reflects its commitment to strengthening European sovereignty and resilience in critical communications infrastructure. By backing a European satellite provider to deliver essential Arctic satellite communications in Greenland, the initiative supports the goal of ensuring that critical connectivity across Europe and the Arctic is underpinned by European capabilities.
Eutelsat and Tusass Build on Longstanding Partnership

The Tusass Greenland partnership with Eutelsat under this project is expected to support the country’s broader priorities for digital inclusion by connecting communities that remain underserved by conventional network infrastructure. As the lead partner, Tusass will play a central role in ensuring that the Enhanced Satellite Connectivity Project delivers meaningful improvements in everyday communications access for residents across Greenland’s most remote regions.
