Overall, the regulatory and policy environment in the telecom sector has improved over the past years. Primarily, we need to have a stable, predictable and transparent regulatory environment. This would help to attract investments in the sector that has seen a rough time.

Some issues still need more clarity and these include the policy guidelines on aspects like spectrum sharing and trading. We also look forward to the practicalities on the M&A policy. In each of these, it would serve the interest of the government, the customers and the operators if these guidelines are liberal and encourage full utilisation of spectrum and resources with high efficiency.

The mobile internet segment has picked up over the past year and it is in this Government’s tenure that internet for all will and should take off in full earnest. As an industry, we would encourage the government to take up internet for all as a shared ambition.
