Mike Sievert given brand new role as U.S. mobile operator shuffles senior management team.

T-Mobile US’ chief marketing officer Mike Sievert has been given the newly-created role of chief operating officer as part of a management shuffle at the operator.

The company disclosed in an SEC filing on Wednesday that Sievert will receive an annual base salary of $800,000, a host of short-term and long-term bonuses, and a severance package equal to twice his annual salary and annual bonus.

Along with CTO Neville Ray and CEO John Legere, Sievert is one of the company’s most high-profile executives, regularly appearing at T-Mobile press conferences and contributing to the operator’s official blog.

Sievert is not the only T-Mobile executive with a new role.

Tom Keys, who has served as COO of T-Mobile-owned MetroPCS, has been given the role of president of indirect channels, giving him responsibility for resellers of T-Mobile and MetroPCS services.

Meanwhile, Jim Ailing, COO of T-Mobile’s business services division has resigned, and will leave the company on 13 March.

The disclosure was made the same day that Verizon announced the impending retirement of Verizon Wireless CEO Daniel Mead. John Stratton, who currently oversees the telco’s wireline business, was named president of operations, giving him responsibility for both the fixed and mobile operations.
