Vodafone Fiji has announced that its 5G services will go live in Fiji soon. This development represents a defining milestone for both customers and the wider nation, as the arrival of this advanced technology ushers in a new era of digital progress in Fiji.
The launch comes after the issuance of the 5G commercial license to all telecommunications operators. Meeting the requirements of this license, Vodafone Fiji has already completed the first stage of its network preparation and is now ready to activate mobile broadband services on 5G. The firm has also committed to a phased rollout plan, in line with its regulatory obligations under the 5G commercial license.
Being the country’s leading telecommunication services player, Vodafone Fiji remains at the forefront of building digital connectivity. By consistently making investments of over $100 million towards enhancing infrastructure, the company is setting itself at a leading position in technological growth, bringing about inclusive growth as well as economic growth in Fiji.
For personal consumers, 5G will revolutionize digital consumption. The technology will provide increased internet speed, lower latency, and the capability to support high numbers of connected devices. This technological leap will dramatically improve entertainment, communications, productivity, and smart living. From buffer-free streaming of high-definition content to smooth online gaming and smart home integration, the new network will redefine user experience across lives.
For businesses, the Vodafone Fiji 5G rollout presents considerable advantages. Enhanced connectivity, rapid data transfer, and low latency will open opportunities for innovation and efficiency across multiple industries. Capabilities such as high-quality video conferencing, real-time collaboration, and accelerated file transfers will improve operations and create new digital pathways. More than offering faster internet, 5G will foster industry transformation, broaden opportunities, and strengthen competitiveness in the Fijian economy.
“We are excited to go LIVE with the first phase of our 5G rollout and are eager to collaborate with the Fiji Government and the Telecommunications Authority of Fiji to ensure a seamless 5G rollout for the nation. Having successfully completed extensive user testing with confident results, we are assured this technology will significantly benefit key industries like healthcare, tourism, agriculture, and finance by unlocking new applications and efficiencies”, said Vodafone Fiji CEO Ms. Elenoa Biukoto.
“The deployment of 5G addresses Fiji’s local challenges, delivers tangible benefits to our communities, and will extend beyond the capital, Suva. It is being rolled out strategically and responsibly, in alignment with the Government’s national development goals and the readiness of our infrastructure. As part of the 5G rollout, parallel efforts are underway to modernise rural and maritime networks to 4G, reducing the digital divide and ensuring no community is left behind”, said the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Communications, Honourable Manoa Kamikamica.
The Vodafone Fiji 5G rollout will be conducted in phases from 2025 through 2028. The first phase, starting this year, will reach Suva, Nadi, Lautoka, and Denarau, which form Fiji’s main commercial and tourism hubs. These locations were selected to ensure that key economic corridors, ports, and health centres benefit early from the new technology.
Phase Two, scheduled for 2026, will extend coverage to towns including Nasinu, Lami, Labasa, and Savusavu, promoting balanced growth between the islands of Viti Levu and Vanua Levu.
Phases Three and Four, spanning 2027 and 2028, will expand connectivity to Nausori, Sigatoka, Navua, Ba, Tavua, Rakiraki, Korovou, and Taveuni. This approach makes the local centers better served by 5G services to further cover the nation.
Besides the rollout of 5G, Vodafone Fiji is also upgrading existing 2G and 3G networks to 4G to offer better service and digital penetration. The upgrade is intended to provide enhanced connectivity to every customer, including rural areas, as part of the country’s transformation.
5G access will be supported over a broad range of mobile broadband devices. Vodafone Fiji works with the world’s leading smartphone brands such as Apple and Samsung to provide timely software updates so customers can get the most out of 5G services on compatible devices.
