Cloud and Edge Networks Accelerated by Optical Links

The synergy between centralized data centers and decentralized edge nodes is critical for the next wave of digital transformation. By utilizing high-capacity optical links, operators are achieving the ultra-low latency and massive data transfer speeds required to support real-time applications and seamless global connectivity across diverse industries.

Optical Sensing Technologies Advancing Smart Networks

The integration of sophisticated sensors into the global fiber optic footprint is turning passive cables into an active, intelligent nervous system. These optical sensing technologies provide real-time monitoring of physical environments, enhancing the security and efficiency of smart networks while offering a scalable solution for modern telecom infrastructure health.

High Speed Data Centers Leveraging Optical Interconnects

The rapid expansion of cloud computing and artificial intelligence has pushed traditional data center architectures to their physical limits. By replacing copper-based connections with high-performance optical interconnects, modern facilities are achieving the throughput and efficiency required to handle massive workloads while maintaining the scalability necessary for future enterprise IT growth.

Verizon Business has entered into a new Verizon AI Connect agreement with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to deliver the high-capacity, low-latency network foundation needed to support the next phase of artificial intelligence (AI) innovation. Under the terms of the deal, Verizon will construct new long-haul, high-capacity fiber routes linking AWS data center locations, enabling the cloud provider to maintain and scale its secure and high-performance infrastructure for customers developing and deploying advanced AI applications at scale.

The new fiber rollout is a big move in Verizonโ€™s wider network expansion, built to handle the growing flood of data coming from generative AI. With Verizon AI Connect, AWS will get stronger and more reliable network routes to boost how AI workloads perform, backed by Verizonโ€™s proven network strength.

โ€œAI will be essential to the future of business and society, driving innovation that demands a network to match,โ€ said Scott Lawrence, SVP and Chief Product Officer, Verizon Business. โ€œThis deal with Amazon demonstrates our continued commitment to meet the growing demands of AI workloads for the businesses and developers building our future.โ€

โ€œThe next wave of innovation will be driven by generative AI, which requires a combination of secure, scalable cloud infrastructure and flexible, high-performance networking,โ€ said Prasad Kalyanaraman, Vice President, AWS Infrastructure Services. โ€œBy working with Verizon, AWS will enable high-performance network connections that ensure customers across every industry can build and deliver compelling, secure, and reliable AI applications at scale. This collaboration builds on our long-standing commitment to provide customers with the most secure, powerful, and efficient cloud infrastructure available today.โ€

The agreement further deepens Verizonโ€™s strategic relationship with AWS, extending beyond the new AI Connect initiative. The two companies have already teamed up on several major projects. Verizon chose AWS as its preferred public cloud partner to push forward its digital transformation plans. Theyโ€™ve also worked together on private mobile edge computing solutions that give enterprise customers secure, dedicated connectivity. These joint efforts have brought clear benefits to industries like manufacturing, healthcare, retail, and entertainment by pairing Verizonโ€™s strong network infrastructure with AWSโ€™s cloud technology.
