Chunghwa Telecom, Fujitsu and 1Finity have signed a two-year strategic partnership to accelerate the deployment of All-Photonics Network (APN) infrastructure in Taiwan while exploring the use of quantum technologies to support future communications networks. Building on their collaboration that began in 2024, the expanded partnership aims to strengthen next-generation optical connectivity, improve network efficiency and prepare Taiwan’s telecom infrastructure for the growing demands of AI-driven applications and distributed data centres.
The agreement extends previous APN verification activities and broadens the scope of collaboration to include technical validation using Chunghwa Telecom’s submarine cable systems, distributed data centre connectivity and research into quantum technologies for future network security. Together, the three companies aim to develop communications infrastructure capable of supporting higher data traffic while reducing network latency and power consumption.
Partnership Advances All-Photonics Network Deployment
The expanded collaboration focuses on accelerating All-Photonics Network deployment across Taiwan by combining Chunghwa Telecom’s network infrastructure with Fujitsu’s optical networking expertise and 1Finity’s experience in advanced optical transmission technologies. The initiative will continue technical verification activities designed to demonstrate how photonic networks can deliver high-capacity, low-latency communications for next-generation digital services.
The partners will also evaluate APN applications across submarine cable systems and distributed data centres, helping improve data transport efficiency while supporting the increasing connectivity requirements created by artificial intelligence, cloud computing and enterprise digital transformation. These efforts are expected to provide a foundation for scalable, high-performance network infrastructure capable of supporting future communications services.
Optical Networks Address Rising AI and Data Demands
As AI applications generate significantly higher volumes of network traffic, telecom operators are increasingly investing in optical networking technologies that improve transmission capacity while lowering operational power consumption. All-Photonics Network technology replaces conventional electronic processing with optical communications wherever possible, enabling faster data transmission, reduced latency and greater energy efficiency across core network infrastructure.
