Deutsche Telekom has agreed to acquire Polish network operator Fiberhost and broadband and TV provider Inea from Macquarie Asset Management in a deal valued at €1 billion. The Fiberhost Inea Acquisition represents a significant move by the German telecom group to strengthen its position in the Polish telecom market through its subsidiary T-Mobile Polska.

The transaction, once completed, would bring substantial fibre infrastructure and a sizeable broadband customer base under the Deutsche Telekom umbrella in Poland. However, the deal still requires Polish competition approval and is expected to reach financial close by the end of 2026.

Deutsche Telekom Agrees €1bn Fiberhost and Inea Acquisition

Under the terms of the agreement, Deutsche Telekom will purchase both Fiberhost and Inea from Macquarie Asset Management for €1 billion. Fiberhost operates as a network operator in Poland, while Inea provides broadband and television services to customers across the country. The Fiberhost Inea Acquisition brings together two complementary businesses that would expand Deutsche Telekom’s fixed-line capabilities in Poland considerably.

Macquarie Asset Management, the current owner of both companies, has agreed to the sale as Deutsche Telekom seeks to build out its Polish operations beyond mobile services. The deal remains subject to regulatory clearance from Polish competition authorities before it can be finalised.

Fiberhost Adds Fibre Reach in Poland

Fiberhost’s network currently passes more than 1.4 million homes across Poland, offering Deutsche Telekom access to extensive fibre infrastructure in the country. Meanwhile, Inea serves more than 300,000 broadband customers, providing an established customer base alongside the physical network assets.

The combination of fibre infrastructure from Fiberhost and the existing customer relationships held by Inea gives Deutsche Telekom a ready-made platform for fixed broadband services in Poland. This fibre network reach is central to the rationale behind the Fiberhost Inea Acquisition, as it allows T-Mobile Polska to offer services beyond its current mobile portfolio.

Deal Advances T-Mobile Polska’s Convergence Strategy

The telecom acquisition is closely tied to T-Mobile Polska’s ambition to move from being a mobile-only operator towards becoming a fully converged telecom provider. By adding fixed broadband and fibre network assets, T-Mobile Polska would be able to bundle mobile and fixed-line services for Polish consumers and businesses.

Fixed broadband and fibre infrastructure have become increasingly important for telecom operators seeking to offer complete connectivity packages. The Fiberhost Inea Acquisition positions T-Mobile Polska to compete more effectively with established converged operators in the Polish telecom market.

Deutsche Telekom expects the financial close of the deal by the end of 2026, pending the necessary Polish competition approval. Until that clearance is granted and the transaction formally closes, Fiberhost and Inea will continue to operate under their current ownership structure with Macquarie Asset Management.

The acquisition forms a core part of Deutsche Telekom’s broader growth strategy in Poland, where expanding fibre infrastructure and broadband network coverage remain key priorities for the company’s European operations.
