Flexenclosure installs hundreds of green telecom power solutions in Myanmar

Telecom infrastructure specialist Flexenclosure has received a second multi-million dollar order from tower company Irrawaddy Green Towers (IGT).  Flexenclosure will provide its award-winning hybrid power solution eSite for hundreds of telecom sites across Myanmar, continuing the world’s largest-ever green-field cellular telecom network rollout.

Flexenclosure, a designer and manufacturer of prefabricated data centre buildings and intelligent power management systems for the ICT industry, has received a second order from tower company IGT to build 300 eSites in and around major cities in Myanmar.  This comes on top of last year’s initial order from IGT for 225 eSites that have already been successfully installed across Myanmar, bringing the total to 525 eSites.

IGT is the largest independent tower company in Myanmar and Telenor has been their anchor tenant since the network was established 2014.  With a keen focus on infrastructure cost reduction, IGT are now optimising their telecom towers to host multiple mobile operators.  This is made possible by the new eSites, which will be configured to supply power for three tenants – Telenor, Ooredoo and MPT.>

The new contract includes all equipment, delivery, installation, commissioning and on-going services. Construction of the eSites is under way at Flexenclosure’s manufacturing facility in Vara, Sweden and deployment of the Phase 2 units in Myanmar will commence later in the year.

Myanmar is the world’s largest remaining green-field market for cellular mobile networks.  Flexenclosure was chosen by IGT as a main hybrid power system supplier for a network that will eventually run to thousands of towers across the country.  The initial order was won in competition with virtually every hybrid power vendor in the world.

“The system of choice for multi-tenant scenarios”

“We are delivering a turnkey solution that will underpin and future-proof IGT’s network power requirements,” said David King, CEO, Flexenclosure. “This repeat order not only validates Flexenclosure’s status as a leader in the hybrid power solutions market, but also confirms eSite as the system of choice for multi-tenant scenarios.”

Flexenclosure’s eSite is a turnkey hybrid power system for off-grid and bad-grid cell sites delivering 24/7 network uptime and diesel-related cost savings of up to 90 per cent. eManager, an all-in-one toolbox for site power infrastructure management, including remote monitoring, power optimisation, KPI reporting, and site logistics, is an integral part of the product.  eSite is designed to be used in a multi-tenant environment where it can provide power to several cellular base stations.

“At a product level, we needed a single solution that would support a broad range of different site requirements and eSite delivers exactly that,” said Elie Haddad, CFO, IGT.  “And operationally, Flexenclosure has demonstrated significant commitment to us, so we’re confident that they’re the right partner for this next phase of our rollout”.

Mobile penetration in Myanmar has risen from 10 to 50 per cent in just two years, and the Myanmar government has set a mobile phone penetration target of 75-80 per cent by March 2016, which would see the market expanding to close to 40 million connections.
