ZTE Corporation, a publicly-listed global provider of telecommunications equipment, network solutions and mobile devices, today launched the ZXSDR R8978, the globally available first ultra-wideband remote radio unit (RRU) .

In a milestone development that will enable the deployment of next-generation, large-capacity wireless networks, the ZXSDR R8978 is the industry’s first large-capacity TD-LTE eight-channel RF module that supports 100MHz bandwidth. It can operate in the entire Band 41 frequency of 190MHz. Supporting a maximum of 5 X 20MHz signal bandwidth, the ZXSDR R8978 is the first globally available base station device that complies with the LTE-Advanced requirements for over 100MHz operating bandwidth.

Many TDD operators, such as Clearwire in the United States, globally possess broadband spectrum resources. In China, the entire 190MHz of spectrum from 2500 to 2690MHz has been allocated for TDD. To meet operators’ future requirements for ultra-wideband RRUs, ZTE developed the ZXSDR R8978 by using low consumption and broadband RF technologies. Supporting up to five carrier frequencies, the ZXSDR R8978 fulfills operators’ power-consumption requirements in large-capacity and large-coverage conditions. Its advanced efficient amplifier technologies include Crest Factor Reduction (CFR), Digital Pre-Distortion (DPD), Doherty, amplifier voltage adjustment, and time slot–based intelligent electricity conservation, dramatically reducing power consumption. The RRU uses noiseless natural heat dissipation, and can achieve a 35% reduction in power consumption compared with RRUs that use traditional air-conditioner heat dissipation, lowering electricity costs.

ZTE has a consistent track record of leading the global industry in innovations on TDD. In 2007, ZTE launched the industry’s first BBU + RRU base station architecture in an innovation that has now become the mainstream architecture of wireless base stations. In Beijing in February 2013, ZTE took the lead in achieving F + D cross-band Carrier Aggregation (CA) with on-site test rates reaching 430 Mbps (in 4 × 4 MIMO mode) and 223 Mbps (in 2 × 2 MIMO mode). Together with advanced LTE-A technologies such as CA, the ultra-wideband base station will further increase the competitiveness of LTE operators.

As of June 2013, ZTE has built TD-LTE pilot and commercial networks for 48 world-leading operators in 33 countries, spanning Europe, Asia-Pacific, Southeast Asia and CIS countries.
