Indian telco indicated that it will contract European vendor for LTE build.

Videocon Industries Ltd. said Monday its telecommunications unit plans to contract Nokia Siemens Networks to build a high-speed network that will allow it to offer fourth-generation telecom services.

A Videocon statement didn’t provide the likely cost. The joint venture between Nokia Corp. and Siemens AG already has a contract to manage Videocon Telecommunications Pvt. Ltd.’s mobile-telephone networks for second-generation services.

The proposed 4G network, based on the Long-Term Evolution technology, could transfer data at least five times faster than third-generation networks. It will allow consumers watch high-definition video on mobile devices and download content at a much faster pace than now.

Videocon Telecommunications currently has bandwidth in six of India’s 22 telecom service areas. It had 3.64 million subscribers at end of December, according to data from the telecom-sector regulator.
