CWC launches Falklands mobile data service

Cable & Wireless Communications (CWC) has launched mobile data services in the Falkland Islands.

Cable & Wireless Falkland Islands has launched 2.5G (GPRS EDGE) mobile data services enabling local customers to access the internet and send and receive e-mails and multimedia messages 
on mobile phones for the first time.
Both prepay and postpay customers will be able to access the new services. CWC reported 82% growth in mobile data revenue across its Group in the 2011/12 financial year, accounting for 21% of the company’s mobile service revenues.
The Falkland Islands lie in the South Atlantic Ocean and have a population of around 3,000. Cable & Wireless Communications is the sole provider of telecommunications for the islands, delivering mobile, fixed line and broadband services.
