Deutsche Telekom is launching MagentaZuhause Hybrid XXL, a new hybrid broadband service that combines fixed-line and mobile networks that deliver download speeds up to 500 Mbps and upload speeds up to 50 Mbps.

The idea of the hybrid broadband service is that the router automatically switches on the bandwidth of the mobile network if data can be transmitted faster than the landline connection is providing at the moment, e.g., when the whole household is hammering the internet with games and streaming. The pitch being that customers of Deutsche Telekom don’t need a fibre-optic connection to be able to take up speeds of up to 500 Mbps.

The combination of two networks that customers of Deutsche Telekom don’t need a fibre-optic connection to achieveetworks “also makes Internet outages almost impossible” claims DT, since if the landline is impaired, users automatically switch over to the mobile network. The MagentaZuhause Hybrid plans are available in M, L, XL, XXL sizes with no extra charges, apparently.

The hybrid network is facilitated by a Speedport Smart 4 router and a weather-resistant 5G receiver, the latter attached to the exterior of the house to best receive the 5G network signal. The receiver also uses 4G/LTE.

A flat network cable placed through the window frame connects it to the router, explains the release, and the Speedport Smart 4 will then automatically install at the landline connection. The installation of the equipment can be carried out manually, or DT will send someone out for a charge.

Routers and 5G receivers are available free of charge for the first three months and then at 7.95 euros per month for the people who order by the end of September, as told and individually the Speedport Smart 4 router costs 6.95 euros per month or a one-time fee of 189.99 euros. The 5G receiver is available monthly for 7.95 euros or a one-time fee of 359.99 euros.
