Sources claim Taiwanese device maker working on seven-inch model capable of making phone calls.

Taiwan’s HTC Corp. is planning to manufacture tablets based on Microsoft Corp’s Windows operating system, Bloomberg News reported Friday on its website, citing unnamed sources.

HTC is working to create a 12-inch device and a 7-inch version that can also make phone calls, the report cited one of the sources as saying. The products will be based on the Windows RT version, designed for devices running on ARM Holdings PLC’s technology, the report added.

The tablets are tentatively scheduled for release in the third quarter of 2013 and would run on chips from Qualcomm Inc., though the details of production and exact schedules haven’t been finalized yet, the report cited a source as saying.
