Photonics Packaging Advancing Telecom Device Efficiency

The evolution of high-speed telecommunications is increasingly dependent on the physical housing and interconnection of optical components. Advanced packaging techniques are now central to achieving the compact integration and thermal stability required for the next generation of global networks, ensuring that signal performance remains optimal as device density increases.

Smart Broadband Infrastructure Supporting Digital Expansion

The global demand for high-speed internet is no longer just about entertainment; it is a foundational requirement for economic growth and social inclusion. Smart broadband infrastructure provides the scalable and resilient foundation needed to support digital expansion, ensuring that modern telecom growth reaches every corner of the globe with faster and more reliable connectivity solutions.

Integrated Photonics Driving Telecom Equipment Innovation

The miniaturization of complex optical systems onto single chips is fundamentally reshaping the telecommunications industry. Integrated photonics enables the creation of compact, energy-efficient, and scalable telecom equipment, providing the technological foundation for next-generation networks and overcoming the traditional barriers of cost and physical size.

Newtec, a specialist in designing, developing and manufacturing equipment and technologies for satellite communications, has been presented with CSI Magazine’s “Best Cable or Satellite IP Solution” award at IBC 2016 for the second release of its MCX7000 Multi-Carrier Satellite Gateway.

CSI awardLaunched at last year’s IBC, the DVB-S2X modem’s multi-carrier capabilities provide efficient distribution to both towers and headends, resulting in OPEX and CAPEX savings for service providers. The award, which was presented at a ceremony on Friday night, recognizes its capabilities and the improvements made to the modem following its launch, including higher density and increased functionality.

“We are excited to win this award for the upgrades we have made to the MCX7000 which now provides customers with multi-modulator capability,” said Johan De Nolf, Product Manager at Newtec. “With this, we can help customers launch the services that they need. Operators can reduce costs and increase growth.”

The improvements made in release 2.0 result in a 1 rack unit device featuring a modulator and three slots for additional application cards: modulators, demodulators, ASI interfaces or a mix. It supports DVB-S2X with bonding (bonding to be released in Q2/2017) and up to four modulators or three demodulators. Its intelligent 1+1 carrier-based redundancy solution, provides near seamless stream switching without the need for carrier switching while minimizing IP network devices. AES encryption on baseband frame level guarantees overall security for closed networks.

Newtec has also improved the performance of the MCX7000 by using Equalink® 3 predistortion technology, which can bring up to 15% higher throughput in DTH systems.

The MCX7000 can be used for very efficient DTH distribution, primary distribution to towers and headends and contribution of 4K/8K video on standard and High Throughput Satellite (HTS) spot beam transponders. In addition, the MCX7000 is compatible with the Newtec Dialog® multiservice broadcast solution.
Visitors attending IBC can take a look at Newtec’s award-winning MCX7000 in hall 1, stand A49. Alternatively, for more information, visit www.newtec.eu/product/mcx7000-multi-carrier-satellite-gateway.
