Chayora, the Hong-Kong-based data centre infrastructure company, completed the first phase of its TJ1 data centre at its 300MW hyperscale campus in Beichen, northern Tianjin.

The news follows an operations handover event now that all primary infrastructure, building, support facilities and data centre hall have been built.

The TJ1 facility will house 3000 to 3600 racks at 10kW average IT load per rack in six data halls, and is the first of a total of nine data centre facilities on the 300MW, 80-acre Chayora campus.

To meet growing demand in the wider Beijing region, Chayora is planning to build a further two facilities on the same campus with up to 60MW IT load. It will also have the option of the ‘speed to market’ Chayora high-performance shell and bespoke MEP or a fully custom designed ‘build to suit’, which also includes the Chayora high-performance shell. Construction due to begin in Q2 2019.

The campus is fully carrier-neutral having already secured agreements with three national telecoms operators. In addition, the site offers the ability to run up to 1Tbps point-to-point dedicated connectivity from each data centre on the campus in Tianjin to any location in Beijing, Hebei or the Tianjin tri-province area.

Additionally, a direct 2ms connection to the Beijing IX in Jiuxianqiao is also available enabling access to multiple nationwide and international cloud on-ramps.

The TJ1 data centre was at the midway point in July 2018 with a then predicted completion date of September 2018. At the time, Chayora said the Tianjin hyperscale campus will serve the greater Beijing region, including its 150 million-plus residents, with a focus on supporting artificial intelligence developments in the region. Earlier this year, Tianjin set up a $16 billion fund to spur AI development in the region.
